Matt Amundson

Amundson started coaching basketball as a high school student working with the youth program in his hometown and has been involved in youth basketball for over 25 years.  He has coached at the high school level as the Varsity Assistant Girls Coach at Whitewater (2008-2012) and Appleton West (2004-2007) and has coached youth basketball at a variety of ages.  He was involved with the Whitewater Traveling Basketball Club coaching numerous teams from 2007-2023.  He also coached football (Whitewater 2015-2016) and baseball (LaCrosse Aquinas (1998-1999) at the high school level.   His daughter Aidyn (2024) and son Evan (2027) attend Whitewater High School while JJ (2034) & Irie (2037) attend Parkview Elementary.

Amundson coached the 2024 team from 2020-2023 and the 2029 team from 2023-present and will be coaching the 2025 team for the 2024 season.

High School Basketball Coaching Highlights

Whitewater High School Girls (2008-2012)

From 2008-2012 Amundson served as the Varsity Assistant Girls Coach at Whitewater with coaching legend Judy Harms.  Amundson served as Interim Head Coach for a majority of the 2008-09 season. The 2011-2012 season was a special season as a strong group of seniors led the way to the first conference championship in 26 years as the team finished a game short of advancing to State.  At Whitewater, Amundson worked with all-conference players Kelsey Harms, Julia Shelbourn (Nevada), Brooke Trewyn (UW-Whitewater), Molly Griep, Sarah Schumacher (Quincy/UW-Whitewater), & Kailey Reynolds.

Appleton West High School Girls (2004-2007)

From 2004-2007 Amundson served as the JV Girls Head Coach and Varsity Assistant at Appleton West with Head Coach Tiffany (Mor) Huck.  During his time at Appleton West he worked with FVA all-conference players, Laura Ebbens (UW-Oshkosh), Courtney Buth, Kelsey Olson, and Marklie Munroe.  The 2008-2009 season saw Seniors Buth, Olson, & Munroe defeat Kimberly for the first time in school history and won the first conference title in 23 years.
